Perms in Leeds

Modern perms are nothing like the tight curls of the 80s. At Harbour, we use updated techniques — including digital perms — to create soft waves, bouncy curls and movement that actually suits your hair.

Our perm specialists are Hong Kong trained in techniques that give you movement without the damage or frizz older perms were famous for. We assess hair strength, porosity and length before choosing the right formula and rod size for your desired finish.

A great perm is only half the product — the other half is how you handle it at home. Every perm appointment includes styling guidance and product recommendations so you can recreate the result in your own bathroom.

Because perms permanently change the hair structure, we always recommend an in-person consultation before booking. It takes 10 minutes and makes sure you walk out with the exact movement you wanted.

What to expect

  1. 1

    Consultation

We check hair condition, length and previous chemical history to make sure a perm is right for you.

  2. 2

    Rod setting

Your stylist wraps the hair on rods sized to the wave pattern you want.

  3. 3

    Perming

The perm solution is applied and timed carefully — longer sessions aren’t better, they’re riskier.

  4. 4

    Neutralising

A neutraliser sets the new shape into the hair structure.

  5. 5

    Cut & style

We often finish with a light cut to balance the new movement, then style so you see the final look.

How to look after it

  • Do not wash your hair for 48 hours after a perm — it needs time to set.
  • Avoid tying your hair up tightly for the first week to let the curls settle.
  • Use a curl-friendly shampoo and a weekly conditioning mask.
  • Air dry or diffuse on low heat to preserve definition.
  • A perm typically lasts 3–6 months depending on hair type and care.

Perms FAQs

Common questions about perms at Harbour Hair Salon.

How long does a perm take?

Most perms take between 2 and 3 hours, depending on hair length and the technique used. Your stylist will give you an exact estimate during consultation.

Will a perm damage my hair?

Modern perm formulas are much gentler than older versions. We assess hair strength before booking, and won’t perm hair we don’t think can handle it — that honesty protects your hair long term.

What’s a digital perm?

A digital perm uses heated rods and a controlled temperature to create soft, bouncy waves that show up clearly when the hair is dry. It’s especially popular for Asian hair types.

How long does a perm last?

Most perms last between 3 and 6 months. Longer hair tends to hold the shape longer, and good aftercare makes a noticeable difference.
